Moira currently lectures Technology Education to students in both the Primary and Early Childhood sectors.
After having a young family, which involved her in early childhood education and the Play centre movement, she trained as a primary teacher at Auckland College of Education (ACE) now the Faculty of Education. She then taught in schools for 11 years ranging from new entrants to intermediate. A fascination with using software to support learning, initiated a move into small business as a software consultant. This led to a relieving position in the Education Advisory (TEAM Solutions) supporting schools with ICT, and then to a permanent position at college.
During her years at the Faculty of Education (ACE) she has undertaken several research projects, and has had her findings published in both the areas of ICT and Technology Education. In the years 2000 -2004 her research material mostly focused on using Information and Communication technologies to support learning in the early childhood sector. In 2004 some research findings were published as an article titled ‘How can ICT enrich the learning environment in early childhood centres? in ‘Computers in New Zealand Schools’. These findings were later referenced in ‘The role and potential of ICT in early childhood education’ a review of New Zealand and International Literature, prepared for the Ministry of Education in 2004.
More recently she has focused her research interests in the area of Technology education. Although having produced a video for the early childhood sector in 2001 'Exploring Technology with Children', her later research had a more general focus on technology education across all sectors. In 2005 she presented a paper at TENZ conference titled ‘The place of ICT in Technology Education.’
Currently she is completing her Masters in the area of Technology Education.
