Biography

Judine‘s main work is in the secondary sector where she has a profile in English and ESOL. She has been a member of many Ministry of Education advisory groups, the most recent being the National Literacy Advisory Group, the Te Marautanga o Aotearoa/New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) project Reference Group, the English reference group for the same project, the National and National Academic Reference groups for the English Language Learning Framework, the National Advisory Panel for the English Exemplar Development Years 1 - 10 and a critiquer for some of this work. Judine was also an Assistant Chief Examiner for School Certificate English in the last four years of that examination, has been an NZQA critiquer on the National Assessment Panel for English and was on the English Achievement Standard group developing the standards.

In addition, for 3 years Judine was one of 2 co-directors for the Ministry of Education’s contract Professional Development in Assessment against Achievement Standards for Implementing the National Certificate of Educational Achievement Levels 1-3’, in Auckland and Northland. She has also worked on contracts in Samoa and China, in 2005 was an Apple Educators’ American tour participant sponsored by the Faculty of Education, and was an Acting Head of Centre at the Auckland College of Education for 2 years.

Judine is a member of the editorial committee for English in Aotearoa, the journal of the New Zealand Association for the Teaching of English, and was the elected Auckland representative on the national council of this association for 10 years, until she no longer sought re-election. She has published numerous textbooks and articles on secondary English teaching and she is currently doing doctoral research.
