The Faculty of Education's mission is to enhance educational achievement, opportunity and well-being from an internationally-focused, research-led base. It is committed to improving the quality and understanding of education and social services provision in New Zealand, and internationally, through its teaching and research, and takes seriously its role as a critic and conscience of society contributing in a scholarly and informed way to debates about education and the social services. Faculty staff are engaged in significant national and international research projects, as well as professional development and consultancy work. The faculty's leading researchers are internationally renowned for the quality of their work.
Approximately 70% of the faculty's 3200 students are enrolled in initial teacher education programmes - undergraduate and graduate. Social work programmes are offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The faculty has a strong and growing suite of postgraduate programmes covering the major disciplines and domains within the faculty. The faculty has approximately 100 doctoral students in PhD and EdD programmes.
