“I decided to study this programme because it would support a move towards a more senior position, and because it would give me the theoretical base to do effective supervision. I like having frameworks and models that work and social work is too important to just be ‘winging it’. There’s a good range of courses within this programme and the lecturers are knowledgeable and approachable. Probably the most interesting aspect though, is what other students bring to the table. We have several professions represented including RTLB’s, counsellors, nurses and managers – and I find that a real strength. With the need for supervision spreading into other disciplines, I know that even though my profession is social work I will have the qualifications and skills to supervise anyone in any practice.”

Louisa Merceanu works in Child Protection for the Department of Child Youth and Family and is studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Supervision.
