Social Work
Our social work team is committed to developing confident and inquiring practitioners who seek to utilise and undertake research.
The social work team in the School of Counselling, Human Services and Social Work is committed to developing confident practitioners who are inquiring and seek to utilise and undertake research. Students have access to the latest research findings in social work and related fields. We offer an integrated approach; combining key knowledge from the social sciences, social work theory and practice skills, and the impact of policy and legal systems, along with specialized knowledge for practice in health, child and family and youth social work services. The emphasis of the programme is on developing culturally grounded and responsive practitioners who understand the diversity in local, regional and New Zealand communities. Continuing education opportunities include education for professional supervision, counselling and our new options in postgraduate health social work in collaboration with the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
