First Years Journal goes online

27 August 2009

The 10th anniversary edition of The First Years Ngā Tau Tuatahi is now available online.

Volume 10, Issue 2 is an example of what will become a valuable online resource for practitioners, teacher educators, researchers and student-teachers in New Zealand and internationally.

The publication has grown in parallel with developments in infant toddler education over the past ten years in New Zealand. It has filled a niche as the only journal with this research focus in New Zealand, and is one of only a few at an international level to deal with the important age group of birth to three years.

Editor Jean Rockel, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Teaching, Learning and Development hopes that by making the publication available online, that the journal will reach an even wider international audience.

“Being online will definitely open up the journal for more worldwide access, both for readers and contributors,” comments Jean. “We get a lot of enquiries from students and teachers overseas who want to get access quickly to the journal and are desperately searching for information on diverse subjects such as art for example, or ICT.”

Not only has The First Years Ngā Tau Tuatahi lifted the profile of early childhood education, it continues to attract a wide range of contributors from the major English speaking countries including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, and recently Norway. The editorial board is confident that it can continue publishing up to date and innovative research on infants and toddlers and support positive new developments in infant and toddler care education.
