Te Kuaka
![]() |
Te Kuaka is a periodical published by the marketing department at the Faculty of Education. It is distributed free to schools, early childhood centres and education institutions in the Auckland and Northland regions, and selected organisations in New Zealand.
We aim to inform teachers and the wider educational community about our work at the forefront of educational research, bring to life the people involved, and provide informed comment on a range of educational issues.
Te Kuaka is Māori for the bar-tailed godwit, a coastal wader found around New Zealand. A migratory bird that travels between Alaska and New Zealand, the kuaka makes the longest non-stop flight of any bird (more than 11,000 km), and it’s return marks the arrival of spring. In Māori culture, birds are considered to carry knowledge, and it is believed that this bird carries positive messages. We hope you agree that Te Kuaka also brings positive news in education.
If you would like a copy or more information about subjects discussed in any issue of the magazine, please contact us. We appreciate your feedback and would also like to hear about the work our graduates are doing in their professions.
