Centre for Educational Design and Development
The Centre for Educational Design and Development is an advice and support centre for staff involved in developing courses, particularly for flexible teaching and learning.
The Centre for Educational Design and Development (CEDD) provides support and advice to lecturers on various aspects of the design and development of courses and programmes, particularly courses and programmes designed for flexible learning and teaching. Some programmes offered in the faculty are either entirely flexible, entirely face-to-face or a combination of both.
All courses developed for flexible learning and teaching are modelled on conventional lecture-based courses, in that students are enrolled in a class led by a lecturer. They also differ from a conventional lecture-based course in that students study off-campus using a variety of technologies.
To ensure that students are provided with appropriate learning, CEDD’s staff include:
- academic staff; educational designers and a technology adviser, who work alongside lecturers to advise on course design
- technical and specialty staff; including a video production team and web and graphic designers
- administrative support; for assignment tracking and resource distribution.
A flexible course may include:
- printed study material
- readings (CD or printed)
- pnline study resources and information (including: activities and discussion rooms) through Moodle
- face-to-face sessions
- audio and video conferencing
- videos
For students enrolled in a flexible course or programme, support is provided in the form of mail out of course materials, and the processing of assignments. The Student Guide: Flexible Learning is a handy guide to refer to.
