Elizabeth is currently Senior Lecturer in Drama, preparing pre-service student teachers to work with Drama in The Arts in the New Zealand Curriculum, and she also teaches professional development modules for practising teachers.

Elizabeth began her career as a secondary English teacher. She taught in New Zealand and overseas - Australia, Indonesia and Kenya - and has had experience in primary, secondary and Early Childhood settings. Drama is her main teaching strength, and she has also taught dance, language arts and music. Since coming into teacher education Elizabeth has taught in early childhood, and primary, as well as on teacher professional development courses.

Elizabeth has been involved with The Arts in the New Zealand Curriculum since 1998 - in the development phase as a writer for Drama, and then as leader of a facilitation team during the implementation phase. That work has since led to the Curriculum/Marautanga Project, considering the redevelopment of the curriculum.
Elizabeth’s work has been the development of resources and materials for drama. She has fulfilled a variety of roles in resource development, which have included directing videos, writing units for teachers, selecting, preparing and coaching teachers and their classes, monitoring post production, and co-writing accompanying booklets.

Elizabeth’s Master of Education is in Curriculum Studies. She has a deep interest in collaborative projects between The Arts disciplines - she designed a successful theatre in education project using drama in an art gallery setting.

She is still very involved in professional teacher education and sees huge potential in that field for spreading the passion and benefits of drama. Her interest in curriculum is currently in investigating the Key Competencies - another area with the potential for integrating learning and engaging learners. In 2006, with colleagues, Elizabeth presented at the UNESCO World Conference on Arts Education - Designing Creative Futures, in Portugal , discussing the place of education in the arts in New Zealand.
