Counselling offers an opportunity to talk to someone who will listen without criticism. It is also totally private and by its very nature can relieve stress. Our counselling service is free to all students and staff of the faculty.
Counselling appointments can be made by telephoning the receptionist at the Student Health Centre on +64 (9) 623 8889 or by telephoning or e mailing the counsellor of your choice. Appointments are usually for one hour’s duration. It would be useful if times which would suit you for an appointment were included in your message.
Four professionally trained counsellors are available: Carol White, Milton Kayes, Robyn McGill and Sabrina Zoutenbier.
They are a highly experienced team and all are members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. The counsellors provide counselling for whatever you, as a client, decide to discuss - personal or professional matters or both. Robyn is also available for Career Counselling.
Counsellors also work closely with the Student Association to help students cope when they need financial help because of an emergency. Application forms for emergency financial grants are usually available from Student Association Administrator’s office in K Block Room 6500. If the Student Administrator is not available students may make an appointment with any of the counsellors to apply for an Emergency Financial Grant.
Tai Tokerau students - a counsellor is available to support students at the Tai Tokerau campus. Mike Lee, a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counselling is a family therapist and counsellor. Mike can be contacted on his mobile telephone 021 0796450. If he does not answer please leave your number to enable him to return your call and arrange a mutually suitable time for an appointment. The counselling service is free to students enrolled at the Tai Tokerau Campus.
