"I used to work in sales but it wasn’t very fulfilling, so I took a leap of faith to do vocational facilitation for adults at a Mäori mental health service. I was drawn to youth health when I realised that many issues could have been avoided if the adults I was working with had been led in the right direction as young people. The degree programme has helped me become familiar with other relevant services in the community, and has indepth advice on good practices and maintaining professional boundaries. Passion is not enough in this field - you need skills and knowledge as well. It’s challenging but it’s worth it and it’s really rewarding to be able to say "I’m a youth worker."
