Master of Educational Management

 

The Master of Educational Management is unique in New Zealand in that it is taught by nationally and internationally respected professional and academic staff from both the Faculty of Education and The Graduate School of Enterprise (Business School). It provides participants with a range of educational and management skills which they need to be outstanding leaders.

Opportunities

The Master of Educational Management is designed to give current and aspiring leaders of educational organisations the skills to be effective leaders. It is relevant to those working in early childhood, primary, secondary or tertiary education, and also to those who manage education and training functions in other organisations.


Content

The core of the programme includes courses in education focusing on educational leadership, policy and organisation, and research, as well as courses in business and
management. Students can also choose further courses from within education and business. There is an opportunity to do a research project, or a thesis, which has direct relevance to your own work setting.

  • 30 points from HRMGMT 702, MAORIDEV 712, 713, MANAGEMT 707, 708 or other approved 700 level courses listed in the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Schedule.

Length

Students enrolled for this degree follow a programme equivalent to one year of full-time study or up to four years of part-time study for a masters by taught courses, or two years of part-time study for a masters by research, and pass the requisite courses with a total value of 120 points.

Study location

Offered as weekly face-to-face and block courses at Epsom Campus (Faculty of Education courses) and City Campus (Graduate School of Enterprise (Business School) courses) with some courses offered as flexible self-directed study. Please note: The research options are not offered online

Graduate School of Enterprise (Business School) courses

Entry Criteria

1. In order to be admitted to this programme, a student needs to have completed the requirements for:

  • a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management from this university, or its equivalent approved by Senate or its representative with an average grade of B or higher
    or
  • a Postgraduate Diploma in Education as approved by the Dean of Faculty of Education with an average grade of B or higher
    and
  • completed the requirements for a professional qualification in teaching, counselling, nursing, social work or other profession approved by Senate or its representative
    and
  • had at least three years of practical experience in that or a related profession, including experience in a formal or informal leadership and/or management role.

2. Any student who has completed the requirements for the Degree of Master of Education in Educational Administration at The University of Auckland may not enrol for or reassign courses to this degree.
