The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours) is recognised in the Primary Collective Employment Agreement (Clause 5.3.1b) as a qualification that offers graduates Q/G3+ salary status.


Content

You can choose to do a supervised research portfolio or complete 120 points in courses. If you choose the latter option you must complete a 30 point dissertation.

Study location

Offered as weekly face-to-face and on-campus block courses at Epsom Campus with some courses offered as flexible self-directed study. Some courses are offered at Tai Tokerau Campus. Please note: EDPROFST 789A and B Research Portfolio BEd (Tchg) (Hons) and EDPROFST 790 Dissertation are not offered online.

Entry Criteria

1. In order to be admitted to this programme, a student needs to have:

either

  • completed the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching)
    or
  • completed the requirements for an equivalent qualification recognised for teacher registration in New Zealand as approved by Senate or its representative
    and
  • gained an average grade of B or higher in 60 points above Stage II

2. A student who has not completed the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) but who has:

  • passed courses with a total value of at least 345 points for that degree
    and
  • gained an average grade of B or higher in 60 points above Stage II

may, with the approval of the Dean of Faculty, enrol for this degree.
The remaining points for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) must be passed within the first semester of enrolment for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours). The Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours) will not be awarded until the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) have been completed.

3. Admission to this degree is at the discretion of Senate or its representative.

Note: This degree may be awarded only where a student’s overall grade for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours) is sufficiently high to deserve Honours. An alternative qualification may be awarded.

Teaching allows MARGARET MARTIN to do what she loves best - help others. Margaret held a Bachelor of Education (Teaching). Her love of teaching brought her back to complete an honours programme which she is studying part-time over two years. Margaret says "The academic staff are approachable and are always available and willing to support the students. As a new teacher in 2001, she taught years seven and eight at Birdwood. Margaret is the health and physical education curriculum leader and also leads a Pasifika cultural group. She is a tutor teacher for beginning teachers.
