Congratulations on your decision to embark on a postgraduate career at the Faculty of Education. Whether you are continuing from your undergraduate work with us or joining the Faculty for the first time, you are now a vital member of our diverse and inspiring community.
As a member of the Faculty of Education, you have joined an illustrious, 125-year tradition of education and teacher education in greater Auckland. When the Auckland College of Education amalgamated with The University of Auckland’s School of Education in 2004, that union gave rise to a Faculty renowned for both its world-class research in education and a long history of excellence in teacher education, social work and human services.
One of the great strengths of the Faculty is that we provide a complete range of programmes in education and teacher education from pre-service to postgraduate and, through the involvement of Team Solutions, professional development in centres and schools as well. This range and diversity of programmes provides many and varied opportunities for students and teachers at all levels as they pursue their careers.
The Faculty’s suite of postgraduate programmes is impressive, with programmes that range from graduate diplomas right through to masterate and doctoral level. At recent graduation ceremonies, the Faculty of Education has had some of the highest numbers of doctoral and masters graduates in the University. This signifies the growing importance of postgraduate study in education, social work, human services, and teacher education, and the emphasis the Faculty places on such study.

Upon completion of your postgraduate studies, the professional opportunities that await you are significant. Whether you remain in a research-focussed field or move into an applied setting, your Faculty of Education qualification will be strong evidence of your skills as a critical thinker and a leader in your chosen field.
