If you choose to graduate in person, you must wear the correct academic regalia. You are responsible for obtaining your own academic regalia - organise your regalia early to ensure availability.
On graduation day, graduands wear the hood and gown appropriate to their degree, and carry their trenchers. Students being awarded a diploma wear an undergraduate gown and the diploma scarf. If you are being awarded a diploma and already hold a degree, you should wear the regalia for that degree as well as the appropriate diploma scarf.
Your graduation ceremony is a formal celebration of your achievement, and graduands are encouraged to dress appropriately. In addition to the correct academic regalia, some graduands choose to wear clothing or garments of honour from their tradition such as a sari, korowai or ta'ovala. This is a welcome enrichment to the colour of the graduation ceremonies.

The bachelor's and master's degree gowns for The University of Auckland are as for the same degrees at the University of Cambridge. The hood for the bachelor's degree is lined with coloured satin and bordered with white fur. The master's degree hood has no fur. Both hoods are the same size and shape as the hood for the Cambridge Master of Arts.
The diploma scarves are black, lined with coloured satin with a band and trim of the same colour. The design of the trim reflects a traditional Maori pattern symbolising the steps towards knowledge. The colour matches the degree cluster most closely associated with the diploma:
The gown for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy is as for the Cambridge Master of Arts with the addition of scarlet facings edged with gold satin. The hood is made wholly of scarlet silk. The gowns for the following doctoral degrees are as for the Cambridge Master of Arts, faced with satin with the same colour as their hoods:
