Centre for Academic Development (CAD)
The Centre for Academic Development comprises four divisions with an institutional mandate for supporting and enhancing teaching, learning and research activities, focusing on innovation and the importance of new technologies. CAD is a newly-formed centre resulting from the merger between the Centre for Professional Development, the Centre for Flexible and Distance Learning and the Student Learning Centre. The result is a central service unit dedicated to provide assistance to all staff and students at The University of Auckland during their academic career.
The four divisions of CAD are:
1. Student Learning Centre (SLC)
The Student Learning Centre provides learning instruction and support to ensure that students of the University are performing at their best in their studies.
2. Academic Practice Group (APG)
The Academic Practice Group is organised to provide support and development programmes which cohere with the policies and priorities of the University of Auckland, research, and the Treaty of Waitangi. It adds value across the University by improving performance, and boosting innovation and organisational learning.
3. eLearning Design and Development Group (eLDD)
The eLearning Design and Development Group provides a centralised service to the University community offering consultation, design and development of digital learning resources.
4. Photography and Television Group
The Photography and Television Group provides a full range of professional photographic and television production services in support of teaching, research and public relations.
English Language Support
English language support is provided to students in the following ways: -
Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA)
Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA) is an assessment/diagnostic procedure available to incoming undergraduate students. It is designed to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses in academic English.
English Language Self-Access Centre (ELSAC)
English Language Self-Access Centre (ELSAC) provides students with resources and space to work on their English language skills at their own time and pace.
