I was born in Gisborne and raised in a small but exquisite seaside village of Hicks bay on the upper most Eastern side of the North Island of NZ. During the early years I attended Wharekahika and Whangaparaoa Native Schools and at the age of eleven did the big urban shift to attend Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls in Parnell Auckland. We learned more of te reo Latin rather than te reo Maori.
I graduated from Auckland Kindergarten Teachers Training College and for many years have taught across early childhood sectors including Kindergartens, Kohanga Reo, Maori immersion early childhood centres. In 1995 I established and opened a Tainui Maori ECE at Waahi Whanui Trust, Huntly and in 2002 established and opened Te Puna Kohungahunga o te Kura Akoranga o Tamakimakaurau, on the then Auckland College of Education Campus - now University of Auckland - Faculty of Education.
I am senior lecturer for Auraki Maori in Mainstream, my brief is Early Childhood and Primary B.Ed (Tchg) Degree.
