Margie teaches on undergraduate and graduate courses. She has also taught at primary school level and te Kohanga reo. Margie is committed to the success of Māori education programmes at all levels. Her research interests include language & literacy development, bilingualism and biliteracy, Maori child development and socialisation. She is an experienced supervisor and supervises and supports masters and doctoral students based in Te Tai Tokerau and Auckland through to Wellington. Living in Whangarei with her whanau, Margie provides students in Te Tai Tokerau with support in their research and studies. Margie has published in diverse areas, including educational and developmental psychology. She was a member of the New Zealand Government appointed Literacy Experts Group and a Māori education commissioner.
