Concern for late diagnosis of deaf children in New Zealand and following with interest the initiative for Newborn Hearing Screening and potential implications.
Interested on the impact of philosophical changes and consequent changes in practice on methodologies in the classroom - deaf education has tended to be fraught with conflicting ideologies.
Currently involved in a Ministry of Education project to develop three masters papers for Advisors for Deaf Children. This is a joint project with Renwick College, University of Newcastle, NSW

I have worked most of my professional life in deaf education. Initially as a teacher of the deaf in both the base school for deaf and in resource classes for deaf children. I have taught children from school entry to transition. Resource teacher for speech and language development for the northern region, Head of department for the senior school, then trained as an Advisor for Deaf Children and worked with the New Zealand Cochlear Implant Programme.
