Postgraduate/Education: Professional studies
Teaching areas: Early years of development and family,(particularly mothers') support in the early years of parenthood also Refining professional performance for teachers. Interests reside in these areas but also disability issues.
Both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, but the latter more current. Interest areas: Early years development of infants , support for their mothers (was PhD area), sibling conflict, evaluation of intervention programmes, alternative education children and adults with special needs, disability issues particularly integration into the community of people with intellectual disability (present project). The research indicated in professional links regarding premature infants operates from Adelaide University acknowledged member of team in recent Lancet (scientific journal) publication.
Member NZARE/OMEP/NZASID/ASSID research organisations. Employed by Counties Manukau Health Board /Auckland District Health Board psychometric assessment in longitudinal research related assessments for the monitoring of infants born prematurely,for purposes of monitoring new procedures in SCBU as well as the effects of steroid medication. Ongoing involvement in longitudinal study for 10 years.
Presently:The First Years Journal member of editing committee also member of Research Ethics application/proposal committee. Past member of ACE Research Ethics Committee/Research Grants Committee/Professional Development for Supervisors Committee/Ethics proposal Support Committee.
Quality outputs, respect as a key feature of interactions with all learners. the importance of sharing research/information with others in the field, also current experiences of "grass roots" application. Translating theory into practice . Need to look beyond the superficial and stereotypical attitudes that become part of the repertoire for dealing with societal problems , rather than reflecting "an approved view"
