Prior to her appointment as a Lecturer in Primary Science, Sally taught at various intermediate schools at both Years 7 and 8 and in primary schools from Years 1 to 6. She has always been interested in science and while teaching was responsible for science in schools. She has also been extensively involved in science fairs at the school and regional level, as a Co-ordinator and Chief Judge.

Sally has also been part of the panel that selects exhibits for the national science and technology event, Realise the Dream. Currently Sally is the NZASE representative on the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART). ANZCCART is concerned with overseeing animal ethics committees and ensuring the welfare of animals used in research and teaching.

When teaching Sally became interested in computers and how to integrate their use into classroom programmes. She completed a Graduate Diploma of Information Technology Education.

Sally has recently completed her Master of Education. As part of this degree she completed a research project into an aspect of environmental education. She explored the development of children’s ideas about the concept of sustainability and their ability to transfer this concept to another context.
