Prior to becoming a teacher educator Maureen worked extensively as a secondary school physical educator particularly in curriculum development, health education, dance education and the development of outdoor education programmes. Currently Maureen lectures in primary and secondary physical education teacher education. Her special interests have centred on critical pedagogy, understanding Maoritanga in relation to teaching te reo kori, adventure based learning, games, outdoor education, and developing the Bachelor of Physical Education.

Methodologies for researching lived experience such as autoethnography, group memory-work and narrative analysis. Also interested in action research and the concept of reflexivity in methodology.
