Short introduction
Dorothy teaches courses in physical education, dance and movement education across the Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Education (Teaching) and Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary).


Educational History
Dorothy was a Head of Physical Education and Dance throughout her career in the secondary education system in English Grammar Schools, Comprehensive Schools and a High School College in New Zealand before becoming a Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Waikato in 1990. In 1995 she was invited by the Minister of Education to work on the Policy Advisory Groups to draw up specifications for the curriculum development of both Health and Physical Education and the Arts due to her specialist movement and dance knowledge. In addition to her lecturing career she pursued a strong interest in developing and promoting Maori contemporary dance. She travelled extensively presenting her research and choreography at major International and National Conferences before transferring to the Auckland Epsom Campus in 2003.

Her publication and research interests are dance and physical education pedagogy, dance in physical education, multi- cultural dance choreography, dance therapy, dance in literature and writing of dance and aesthetic experience at a post graduate level
