I have been a lecturer at a College of Education or University since 1992. My teaching interests include: social justice education, studies in diversity (disability), qualitative research methods, sociology of disability, history of education in New Zealand, history and development of Curriculum in New Zealand, professionalisation of teachers and human service workers. My doctoral research investigated the ways non-disabled learners and teachers can identify, confront and change ableist views of disability. Current research identifies and examines strategies adult educators may consider to challenge their own or others’ ableist beliefs and practices.
I have supervised dissertations and theses at undergraduate and graduate levels that examine issues in educational and adult service provision and practice in New Zealand including parent perceptions of choice, services and programmes, inclusive education and a range of service issues in human services.
