My major teaching area is counsellor education, including cross-cultural issues, professional ethics, counselling supervision, and counselling, guidance and pastoral care in schools. Related areas of interest include contemporary theories and research in loss and grief, and suicide prevention, intervention and bereavement.
My research interests include loss and grief, particularly suicide bereavement; complex cultural heritages, including the experiences of Pasifika people who are Afakasi; culture and mental health; and areas associated with counselling practice and counsellor education, including professional ethics and supervision.
Methodologies are primarily qualitative, but also include quantitative in mixed method designs.

In collaboration with staff of Netsafe and Safe, since 2003 I have been involved in the development and facilitation of professional development workshops for counsellors and other helping professionals on emerging relational and safety issues associated with cybertechnology.
