Teaching Areas

Introductory sociology, New Zealand society, research methods, the sociology of social work law in New Zealand.
Allen has also taught research methods in the postgraduate programme of the Sociology Department, and supervises postgraduate thesis students from the Faculty of Arts.

Research Interests

Migration, migrant adaptation and settlement in New Zealand, 1.5 generation New Zealanders and transnational migration, New Zealand biculturalism/multiculturalism and social cohesion.
