The School of Counselling, Human Services and Social Work brings together academic staff with expertise in a number of fields of practice in the human services. We are a group of people active in teaching, scholarship, research and practice in the main disciplines of social work, counselling, disability support and youth work.
Our research interests include: disability studies and disability support and advocacy; subjective wellbeing and quality of life; grief, loss and bereavement; migration issues and studies; organizations and management; professional supervision and continuing professional education; sexuality and gender studies; spirituality and social work practice in the fields of child protection, mental health, health, Pasifika services and justice; sociology and social policy; and youth work. Our staff share an underlying unifying belief that people of integrity, who possess excellent skills and a strong ethical base, can make a positive difference supporting those who face challenges, to live the fullest lives possible.
The graduates of our programmes aspire to excellence and in doing so listen closely to the individuals, families and communities to whom they provide a service.
