Strategy to support research undertaken by practitioners

The strategy offered a series of workshops over the following year where participants could develop and design a research study and eventually write it up and present the study at a symposium. It was expected that those attending would submit expressions of interest for a study they could do based on their current practice soon after the workshop. We were looking for projects that were practice based, involved a ‘team’ of staff in the agency, and were likely to receive the approval of their agency. We offered to develop further workshops on methodologies and research design and to support initiatives with mentoring systems that could assist practitioners working at the coal-face. We asked the participants, working in their groups, to assist us observe and discern how research as a feature of practice can be undertaken in ‘work’ settings and in particular how we may be able to map the way knowledge generated in activities of this nature contributes to practice.
