1. Preliminary qualifications:
In order to be considered for admission to the EdD programme candidates need to have completed the requirements for the award of either:
- the Degree of Master of Education or the Degree of Master of Arts in Education with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours at the University of Auckland, or
- the Degree of Bachelor of Education or the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Education with First Class or Second Class (division I) Honours at the University of Auckland, or
- an equivalent qualification approved by the Postgraduate and Scholarships Committee
and - demonstrated an ability to pursue doctoral level research in the field of Education
and - after the completion of a first degree, gained at least 5 years of experience in education or in an area considered comparable by the Postgraduate and Scholarships Committee.
2. Supervision:
Admission to the EdD is subject to the availability of suitably qualified supervisors. EdD candidates must have a main supervisor from the Faculty of Education and a co-supervisor or advisor. The supervisors have formative input, with the course team, during the first two years of the programme, and oversee the completion of the thesis. The EdD Programme Advisor can provide assistance in approaching possible supervisors.

An interview with the EdD Programme Leader is a requirement for admission to the programme.

All students entering the programme are required to have access to the Internet and to make regular use of e-mail. Advanced library research skills are also required. (Courses are available.)
