The EdD degree is the largest and fastest growing of all the ‘named’ or professional doctorates internationally. EdD programmes differ substantially internationally.
The Doctor of Education (EdD) at The University of Auckland is cohort-based, and Part One organised around the study needs of full-time professionals in education and other related fields. Candidates are required to attend four intensive teaching sessions (one evening and the following full day) per year in completing the Research Portfolio (Part One) component of the degree. Other workshops and classes are also available. The programme addresses the nature and purpose of educational research, assists students in sharpening their research questions, and demands wide and critical reading. Discussion of key theoretical and methodological problems is fostered. Candidates are encouraged to engage in processes of peer review and to seek publication of their work in refereed journals.
The future looks bright with an EdD (59kB)
Because they are required to meet regularly, candidates must be resident in New Zealand and within easy travelling distance of Auckland during their candidature.
