Undergraduate
Postgraduate
The BA (Hons) and MA in Education introduce you to the major themes of education, and encourage you to review the nature and impact of current national and international initiatives in education against a background of understanding education as an academic discipline. Elements of the programme explore contemporary issues in education and society; historical perspectives on education; the psychology, philosophy and sociology of education; learning and development theory; adult and higher education; Mäori education; and research and evaluation. Students benefit from being taught by staff who are internationally and nationally renowned researchers.
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Education
The BA(Hons) is a stand alone degree at postgraduate level. It may be taken after a completed BA and is awarded as a separate qualification. The BA(Hons) may be used as the entry qualification for the one year MA.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Arts- PGDipArts
The PGDipArts is another way of pursuing postgraduate study, in any subject which
is available for the BA(Hons). It consists of postgraduate taught courses, and may ormay not include a dissertation. It is normally focused on one subject, but it is possible to include a limited number of courses from other relevant subjects.
- Master of Arts in Education
An internationally recognised master’s degree from The University of Auckland is an effective demonstration of your knowledge and understanding of education.
- Doctor of Education (EdD Programme)
The Doctor of Education (EdD) offers an opportunity for senior education professionals to develop high quality research skills and complete an advanced research qualification to international standards. It also contributes to the development of professional peer networks based in an interest in carrying out, and disseminating, educational research at a high level. The EdD is an alternate doctoral-level award to the traditional PhD, and is designed for the ‘researcher professional’ as a reflective practitioner as distinct from the ‘professional researcher’.
- Doctor of Philosophy
This programme of supervised research is aimed at graduates who aspire to positions of professional educational leadership and responsibility, or to a career in educational research, and wish to develop research skills and in-depth knowledge of a particular field.
General Education
The University is introducing a General Education programme into its undergraduate degrees. General Education is aimed at producing graduates with flexibility, critical thinking skills, and an appreciation and understanding of fields outside of their usual area of study.
The Faculty of Education offers five courses as part of the General Education schedule; EDUC 120G Education, Knowledge and Society, EDUC 121G How People Learn, EDUC 122G Learning Sexualities, DISABLTY 113G Making Disabilities and YOUTHWRK 152G Understanding Youth Cultures.
