Postgraduate Diploma in Education
(Reading Recovery Trainer Training 2008)
Applicants are sought for Reading Recovery Trainer training, which consists of four compulsory Reading Recovery courses in the schedule for the one year Postgraduate Diploma in Education, offered by The University of Auckland, Faculty of Education, in 2008.
Reading Recovery Trainers play a central leadership role in Reading Recovery. They provide tertiary level training for tutors and also guide, monitor and support the effective delivery of Reading Recovery across an education system. Reading Recovery Trainers advise on policies, current issues and developments, and undertake and report on research. They provide quality assurance advice and oversee changes necessary to the development of Reading Recovery to ensure its continued effectiveness.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Education from The University of Auckland is recognised as an international qualification for holding the position of a Reading Recovery Trainer.
In order to be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education a student needs to have completed the requirements for a Bachelors degree in Education from The University of Auckland or an approved equivalent degree; or completed the requirements for an approved Advanced Diploma in Teaching and have three years teaching experience; or completed the requirements for a Graduate Diploma in Education from The University of Auckland or an approved equivalent graduate diploma.
Applicants for the four compulsory courses for Reading Recovery Trainer training should be primary teachers who have a sound understanding of recent theory and research in early literacy and child development, knowledge of the junior area of the New Zealand primary school and leadership experience in working professionally with colleagues.
The successful applicants will need to have proven experience or potential to work effectively with a range of people at many different levels in the education sector, and in the wider community. Prior experience as a Reading Recovery tutor is not essential but may be considered an advantage.
