Description

New Zealand must find ways of reducing persistent disparities in educational achievement between various social and ethnic groups.

Professors Viviane Robinson, Helen Timperley and Dr Graeme Aitken have undertaken Best Evidence Synthesis research to answer the following questions:

  • What teaching approaches enhance outcomes for diverse learners in the social studies curriculum domain?
  • What kind of professional learning experiences for teachers have positive outcomes for students?
  • What kind of leadership skills and dispositions help teachers to make a bigger difference to student outcomes?

The result of these three syntheses is a theory of pedagogy, a theory of teacher and professional learning and a theory of educational leadership, which explain the difference they make to a range of student outcomes.
