The Anatomy of Power is an annual series of symposia hosted by The Politics of Social Regulation Research Group. Each year renowned scholars are invited to address issues of the exercise of power.

The purpose is to broaden and deepen intellectual debate and strengthen links between the
university and the public on matters of serious national interest. This year two major international anthropologists, Professor Jonathan Friedman and Professor Alain Badadzan, will address the symposium on the global politics of ethnicity and culture. The speakers will be followed by a panel of discussants who will relate the speakers’ insights to the New Zealand situation. The symposium will conclude with a book promotion of Public Policy and Ethnicity, The Politics of Ethnic Boundary-Making, edited by Elizabeth Rata and Roger Openshaw, published by Palgrave Macmillan.
