Congratulations for choosing to further your career, knowledge and skills through postgraduate study in Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading university. The latest international rankings place the University of Auckland well ahead of its competitors for Education as a subject.

Here at the Faculty of Education and Social Work we work with you to help you develop your skills and advance your career in a broad and diverse range of areas that span across disciplines. We offer highly relevant programmes covering teaching, leadership, education, human development, health and wellbeing as well as social and community services.

You will have an opportunity to learn from academic staff who are nationally and internationally recognised for their teaching and research excellence. You will also benefit from the strong partnerships we have established with communities of practice in education, social work and counselling, which gives our programmes a leading edge in these fields.

Flexible taught and research study options are available for most of our programmes, which are designed to challenge your thinking, contribute to new knowledge and find innovative solutions to the rapidly changing education, community and social landscape – both locally and globally.

We understand that every postgraduate student has a different background, profession and career goal, which is why we have designed a number of different pathways to help you achieve your goal. Whatever your personal interest or area of expertise – whether that be early childhood teaching, literacy or mathematics education, leadership and mentoring, or working with youth or vulnerable people, among many others – our faculty has the programmes, expertise, and learning opportunities and resources to excite and engage you.

Our graduates are making a difference in diverse roles that contribute to the improvement of social and educational outcomes of individuals and communities in New Zealand and around the world. Through postgraduate study you can develop the skills to become leaders and influencers in your own field or workplace.

I warmly welcome you to the supportive postgraduate communities thriving at each of our four campuses in Auckland and Whangarei. If you are living in Auckland or thinking about coming to Auckland to pursue your postgraduate study, you may be spending most of your time at our main campus in Epsom, nestled at the foot of Maungawhau (Mt Eden). I also welcome you to Auckland, a sustainable, safe and vibrant city, which offers unique experiences and opportunities for you to enjoy during the course of your study.

I invite you to explore and find your postgraduate pathway at the Faculty of Education and Social Work.

We look forward to working with you.
