“I was particularly interested in the Master of Teaching (Secondary) programme because it enables me to obtain a teaching qualification but with a particular focus on priority learners.”

“I have a masters degree in History from Uppsala University in my home country of Sweden, where I have worked as a teacher aide. I am now living in New Zealand and want a career where I can make a difference for young people.

“In my courses at the Faculty of Education and Social Work, we are being equipped with tools to facilitate the success of all students, including those belonging to historically disadvantaged groups.

We learn to apply theories on culturally responsive pedagogy and teaching for social justice to our ongoing practicum experiences in Auckland schools.

“I enjoy listening to researchers and education professionals sharing their findings and experiences during our classes. As well as the practicum blocks, we usually spend two days per week out in the field. It means practice is never separated from theory.

“I am looking forward to a long teaching career in New Zealand state schools. I would also like to do further study in one of my main research interests, which is History teaching in schools.”
