About ESSA

The Education and Social Work Student Association (ESSA) is run by students for students of the Faculty of Education and Social Work. ESSA seeks to provide services and events that build on the needs and interests of students while developing a culture and community within the Faculty.

The Association facilitates a number of services for students including:

  • Social events, social sports and Interfaculty Sports tournaments
  • Student welfare and support services including food parcels, locker hire, assistance accessing Faculty-specific and AUSA Hardship Grants.
  • Student representation
  • Training and development courses for students
  • ESSA membership and information through social media and online newsletters. Join now to get involved in student life on campus.

ESSA has an executive of elected students who assist and represent their fellow students at all levels of university life. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Student Representation

A Class Rep is a student who volunteers at the start of year to represent the interests of students to the lecturers in charge of those courses. They provide an important link between students and staff in a Department. They give the Department feedback on the courses and any problems or concerns that students raise. They also communicate with the class and are available to hear students’ concerns about courses, to help them directly or suggest where they could go for help.

If you want to know who your Class Rep is or if you want to know how to become one, you can contact ESSA at info@essa.co.nz.
