TeachNZ scholarships are available for Māori and Pacific high achievers and those training to become a secondary teacher in the sciences, technology or maths.

The aim of the scholarships is to provide funding to students studying in areas where there are teaching shortages. This can vary year-by-year and data is reviewed each year to determine the gaps. Current teaching shortages are in Māori-medium and te reo Māori teaching, early childhood teaching for those with skills in te reo Māori or Pacific languages and in science, technology and maths teaching.
