In the village of Moana’s ancestors, leaders are made.

They are warriors, armed with creativity and bravery, alofa and reciprocity.

They are born to serve their people.

Southside Rise

This creative research project has brought together 60 young brown leaders from 10 South Auckland schools for talanoa, fono, workshops, rehearsals, experience days and lots of pizza since the end of 2016. Throughout this process, these young leaders have shared their stories drawing on creative processes from hula, hiphop, siva, tau’olunga, spoken word, fagogo, social media, design, rap and song.

These young Southsiders tell us that leadership is bravery, creativity, alofa, reciprocity and above all, service.

Come and see our stars shine.

This show which premiered at Mangere Town Centre takes us into the lives of Southsiders as they struggle with the pressure of school and a first year at University.  Following the show will be an opportunity to have afternoon tea and talk to the performers.
